Car enthusiast praises the Porsche 918 and sees the Mission S as a more usable sports car

Discussing the Porsche 918, a podcast guest recalled the “Holy Trinity” of hybrid hypercars: the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari. He said the 918 was the heaviest and least powerful of the three, but arguably the fastest and best-built. Comparing it with the P1, both of which he had worked on, he rated the Porsche’s build quality higher. He also noted that the 918 could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds back in 2013.

Participants contrasted the 918 with the Carrera GT. In their view, the Carrera GT suits someone seeking an analog car with a manual gearbox and no driver aids. One participant, by contrast, called the 918 a car that could be handed to almost anyone to drive like a normal car.

On the Porsche Mission S, a host said he was excited by the prospect of the model being made in large numbers, which he expected would make owners less protective of it than owners of rare, expensive 918s and Carrera GTs. Another participant predicted the Mission S could end up costing about $800,000 and noted that Porsche options and custom paint can significantly increase a car’s price. These were participants’ estimates, not confirmed production-volume or pricing information.
