Collector Discusses Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway Memorabilia
The guest, who collects Apple, business and sports memorabilia, said that about 10 years ago he considered Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway under-collected. He said Buffett-signed blocks of 6, 8 or 10 uncut dollar bills once sold for about $2,000–$3,000; over the past five years, prices had risen to roughly $10,000–$15,000, and one sold for $24,000 last year.
The guest also showed a Berkshire Hathaway annual-meeting pass for every year since what he believes was 1997, and said the passes are not difficult to obtain. He said Buffett had not signed items by mail for about 10 years. According to the guest, JSA and PSA authenticators had rejected Buffett signatures that began appearing over the previous three or four years, and one authenticator told him there was a fake Buffett-autograph ring in New York.
On autograph etiquette, the guest said the best writing instrument depends on the surface: for paper, he would prefer a pencil to a Sharpie because the ink can bleed through and turn yellow after a few years. That was the collector’s advice and assessment, not an independent authentication finding.
