Car enthusiast calls Tesla Roadster reveal a striking showcase but questions the stunts’ practicality
An automotive creator and podcast hosts discussed the Tesla Roadster reveal. The creator said the technology showcase was impressive but did not substantially change his view of the car. He called stunts such as a barrel roll or a flip over a truck impractical and said he did not believe those capabilities would make it into a production version.
One host described the Roadster as a technology demonstration attached to a teaser for a car that, he said, Tesla planned to begin making in two years. He added that the actual timeline was uncertain and could stretch another 10 or even 20 years. He and a co-host had each put down a $5,000 reservation deposit, expecting they could back out after seeing the demonstration.
The participants also questioned the Roadster’s practicality on a race track. In the host’s view, a heavy car generating substantial downforce could wear through tires quickly, while driving at the limit might cause problems at a track. The automotive creator compared the Roadster’s appearance to a Lamborghini Murciélago at the front and a new Dodge Charger at the rear. These were participants’ assessments and predictions, not confirmed specifications of a production car.
