Stephen Colbert says he is working on a Lord of the Rings movie in New Zealand.

Colbert says a friend introduced him to J.R.R. Tolkien’s work in 12th grade. He attributes its appeal to the books’ implied history, roots and integrated culture, while noting that he has nothing against Game of Thrones and considers George R.R. Martin a friend.

He describes Tolkien’s approach as starting with invented Elvish languages and then developing the stories and culture those languages would support—a “total work of art.”
