SpaceX introduces Starfall for routine access to microgravity

A host said SpaceX had introduced Starfall, a project intended to provide affordable, routine access to a microgravity environment. Potential applications listed included biomedical research; developing biomaterials, medical implants, stem-cell organoids and replacement tissues; pharmaceutical research and growing more uniform protein and drug crystals; and materials science and manufacturing advanced materials and semiconductors using space’s vacuum and microgravity. The hosts discussed possible competition with Varda, but also suggested the companies could complement each other: it is unclear whether SpaceX will provide only launch and return capacity, while Varda has developed a research capsule and partnerships with biotechnology companies. That was the hosts’ analysis and speculation, not a confirmed agreement.
