Meta’s $1,300 VR glasses combine a wired display option with adoption challenges

Meta’s VR glasses are priced at $1,300, weigh 100 grams and are expected in spring 2027. They are positioned as a cinema, workstation and gaming console, with computing hardware and the battery in a belt-worn pack. DisplayPort over USB-C was presented as a way to connect a laptop by cable for near-zero-latency video; support by game consoles was uncertain. Battery life was described as about three hours.

The tabletop virtual keyboard was praised as an improvement over Apple Vision Pro’s, but flat-surface typing was also criticized as an imperfect input method: voice or a tactile keyboard may be preferable for extended work, though virtual typing could help when a keyboard or laptop is unavailable. Meta was described as still the dominant platform for VR developers despite industry pivots. Wider adoption—and VR calling in particular—depends on building a broad installed base; hardware-dependent networks were characterized as harder to establish than connections through existing messaging and social apps. Display density was not disclosed; an estimate of about 5K per eye was explicitly speculative.
