Leno: Personalized Feeds Fragment Audiences and Narrow Their View

Jay Leno said streaming and personalized news choices have fractured the shared audience. He used to learn about topics he was not personally interested in by watching television; now, he said, people tend to watch what they already want—such as news about Donald Trump or MSNBC—and remain in information bubbles. Leno also said it has become harder for public figures to reach a broad audience: in his estimate, it may now take 25 or 30 appearances to reach more than a dozen people because media is so fragmented. He said he likes performing on the road partly because it gets him outside his own bubble.
