Hosts discuss Anthropic’s financials and prospective IPO
In a discussion of a prospective Anthropic IPO, the hosts cited figures they said were in the S-1 as of June 30, 2026: the company had raised a total of $141 billion, held $112.4 billion in cash and cash equivalents, and had $19.3 billion in short-term investments. One host calculated that, in light of those figures, the company had spent about $9.8 billion since raising the capital. He also said Anthropic was profitable on an operating-income basis in the June quarter and described its scaling as exceptionally efficient.
The hosts said the IPO was expected, according to the plans under discussion, during the week of November 16; the amount to be raised and the valuation were not known. They mentioned rumors of a $100 billion raise and valuations between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, stressing these were not confirmed offering terms. According to the hosts, the S-1 also discussed the risk of catastrophic AI outcomes.
The discussion cited marketing expenses of $2 million in 2023, $568 million in 2025, and $3.17 billion in the first half of 2026. The hosts said they had not found a separate line item for AI safety expenses, but did not claim that no such spending existed. They also cited a $125 billion equipment lease with Broadcom and said 48% of revenue came through cloud marketplaces.
The hosts also discussed Spark Capital’s investments: an estimated $777 million invested across rounds from Series C through Series H could correspond to a stake worth about $18 billion at a $2 trillion Anthropic market capitalization. They said Yasmin was the only venture capitalist on the board and described Spark’s early conviction as notable. These valuations and interpretations were presented as the hosts’ analysis, not as guaranteed returns or confirmed future value.
