Consumer electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft are being marketed as human-carrying flying drones for approximately $100,000 to $120,000. The main proposed use case is avoiding traffic in congested cities such as Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.; a trip that takes an hour by car could potentially take 10 minutes by eVTOL for travelers with high opportunity costs.

The aircraft are compared with helicopters, while their safety and range remain unresolved. Related unmanned aircraft are already used in agriculture for crop spraying, raising the question of whether a passenger is necessary when the vehicle is not being used for travel.
