Rainmaker Raises $100 Million, Frames Cloud Seeding as Strategic Water Infrastructure
Rainmaker said it raised $100 million, describing the financing as small compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars China’s Meteorological Administration reportedly spends annually on weather modification. The company framed water as a strategic resource and a fundamental input to industry, agriculture, and food production.
Rainmaker identified cloud seeding as its foremost option for producing more water and argued that, without additional production, water bodies including the Colorado River and Great Salt Lake could become impaired to the point of mass evacuation. It said greater water production is needed for U.S. strategic health and for overseas allies such as Jordan and Morocco.
