Younger luxury-home buyers in Utah seek year-round outdoor living

Resort-property buyers have become younger, according to Thomas Wright of Summit Sotheby’s International Realty: some are in their 20s and early 30s. They are drawn to lifestyle, work-life balance, convenient access to a retreat, and time with family and friends. Wright said buyers tend to hold a property when it provides the kind of retreat they want.

Buyers also compare resort markets and may choose to move between them. Wright said some prefer Sun Valley’s smaller, boutique feel, and described clients relocating from Aspen to Park City and Deer Valley. He said it is important to direct clients to properties that suit them, including in other resort regions.

Wright said summer can be the factor that turns visitors to Park City and Deer Valley into buyers. The area offers Jordanelle Reservoir, fishing, hiking, and biking. He described summer weather as around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 27°C, with little humidity.
