Cami Clark’s reported influence around Anthropic CEO draws renewed scrutiny

Reporting by The Information and The Wall Street Journal has renewed scrutiny of Cami Clark, identified as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s wife. Although she does not work at Anthropic, people close to the company described her as an informal sounding board and strategic adviser who appeared with Amodei at events, spoke with investors and helped bring early investor Eric Schmidt into Anthropic’s orbit. A proposed “Mother of AGI” fund intended to formalize her involvement and manage Schmidt’s investments reportedly did not move forward.

The reporting said Clark and Amodei married in 2022, apparently in Italy, while public details about the marriage remained limited. It also described Clark’s contacts with investors and politicians, including Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and reported that she had unsuccessfully sought Jeffrey Epstein’s investment in an earlier venture.

The Wall Street Journal said Anthropic could reach a valuation above $2 trillion in an IPO as soon as the fall. The coverage has prompted debate over whether scrutiny of Clark’s personal history is in the public interest, particularly because Anthropic has made morality and virtuous behavior central to its public positioning. The long-term effect on the AI industry remains uncertain; Claude reportedly did not confirm Amodei’s marital status, which was cited as an example of protecting personal information.
