Quest Diagnostics investigates unauthorized access involving patient data

Quest Diagnostics said it identified unauthorized access to its Quantum Lab Service Manager, which some clients use to order tests, receive results, and look up information. The company paused access to the system and is investigating. Quest said some patient data within Quantum LSM may have been accessed, while other systems were not affected and core business operations remain running. The company has not yet determined exactly what data was affected. In the discussion, the hosts noted that the potentially exposed information could include health and patient-identifying information, but the specific data remains unknown. They said Quest serves roughly half of U.S. hospitals and physicians and listed drug-screen, cancer, pregnancy, STI, and HIV testing among the kinds of tests the company conducts.
