Modern Warfare 4 adjusts movement after beta feedback as matchmaking debate continues

Modern Warfare 4 is taking a more boots-on-the-ground approach than Black Ops 7, which featured wall jumping and grappling hooks. The game retains movement features such as mantling, climbing and shimmies, while the studio continues to debate how fast the gameplay should feel.

After feedback from the first beta weekend, the team changed movement and time-to-kill by the second weekend. The studio says balancing the preferences of players focused on Zombies, campaign, Black Ops and Modern Warfare is difficult, and that further requests for changes are likely after launch.

The studio says every Call of Duty game has included some level of matchmaking or skill-based matchmaking. Its stated goal is to let less-skilled or casual players have fun without being overwhelmed while preserving enjoyable competition for highly skilled players, though details of the current system were not provided. Modern Warfare 4 has been in development for three to four years, and the team says changes can be slow because one adjustment may disrupt other systems.
