Jay Leno: Repeatable formats work, but they need refreshing
Discussing television formats, Jay Leno said the team returned to ideas that worked, including a headlines segment and man-on-the-street interviews. For the latter, he said, they spoke to no more than 20 people in an evening and used 16 responses; there were no planted participants. The team did not repeat formats that failed. Leno also said comedians need to come up with new material rather than endlessly reuse a joke that worked in another city years earlier.
