The Cultural Tutor pilot reaches 5.6 million views and nearly 250,000 subscribers

The Cultural Tutor project is expected to reach 6 million Instagram views in the month discussed and has reached 3 million views on YouTube, according to its creator. A new YouTube channel launched a pilot featuring Sheehan Quirk, who was brought on as a writer-in-residence after the project’s creator found his anonymous Twitter account.

The creator said Quirk’s Twitter audience grew from about 100,000 followers to 1.6 million over three years. The pilot, financed with $150,000 of the creator’s own money, reached 100,000 views within 18 hours and later reached 5.6 million views, generating almost a quarter-million subscribers from an account that had started with zero subscribers.

The project is still weighing whether it needs Hollywood. The creator said studios value exclusive access to people or places and can offer budget and prestige, but called the studio pitch un compelling and said the team may not follow that route. Whether the project will enter a studio deal remains unresolved.
