A failure at a highly valued AI startup could become a major headline event

Market commentary points to AI companies valued in the tens of billions of dollars despite being relatively insignificant to the broader AI trade. Because of those valuations, the failure of one company could draw extensive coverage from the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and other newspapers.

The assessment is that a failure of that scale could be perceived as comparable in magnitude to the collapses of WeWork or Theranos, although for a different reason. A multibillion-dollar AI company failure would likely become a major public and financial-news event.
