Steve Jobs’s 1985 Vision Resembled Conversational AI

In a 1985 presentation, Steve Jobs imagined capturing a thinker’s underlying worldview in a computer so that a student could ask questions and receive answers. He illustrated the idea through Aristotle, who had been Alexander the Great’s tutor for about 14 years.

The concept is interpreted as an early version of conversational AI: an interactive interface that provides access to knowledge through dialogue, rather than simply storing text. The comparison with modern large language models and ChatGPT is an interpretation—not proof that Jobs literally predicted a specific technology—and is linked to his view of computers as tools that expand human capabilities.
