Chinese and U.S. Humanoid Robots Show Different Strengths

Public demonstrations suggest a contrast between Chinese and U.S. humanoid robotics. Chinese projects are often shown running quickly, fighting or performing elaborate dance moves, while U.S. companies including 1X, Figure and Tesla’s Optimus are described as walking relatively slowly and manipulating small objects in factory-like tasks.

The comparison does not establish which country is stronger in the capabilities most important for industrial use. Spectacular speed and kinetic displays may matter less for manufacturing than precise fine-motor manipulation, but the practical performance of the robots remains unclear. Tesla may soon provide an update on its humanoid robots.
