World pairs phone-based checks with the Orb and is skeptical of deepfake detection

Alex Blania described a lighter-weight way to verify people using a phone. He said it provides less assurance but helps World scale verification. As an example, he cited a video call in which a verified participant could ask others to verify on their phones, with the result shown using a different badge. He added that World also needs to expand Orb distribution.

Discussing deepfake detection from ordinary video, the host was optimistic, citing Pangram and suggesting detection could work even without LiDAR or iris scanning. Blania was considerably more skeptical and said this was why the company is building the Orb. That is his assessment, not a claim that all deepfake-detection methods are impossible.
