Bentley’s Torcal electric SUV targets new buyers as deliveries fall
Bentley’s first electric car, the Torcal SUV, is aimed at younger and first-time customers and is set to cost half as much as the Ferrari Luce. Its propulsion sound, crafted by musicians, blends percussion, crystal glass, birds and tapping leather. Bentley has completed a $350 million investment to design and build the Torcal at its Crewe plant; total investment in the UK automotive sector is now more than $1 billion.
The launch comes as Bentley faces slowing demand in China, fallout from conflict in the Middle East and higher US tariffs. The company has reduced its workforce as profits and vehicle deliveries have declined.
