Markets slide amid AI concerns, while TBPN hosts see potential upside for Alphabet

TBPN hosts described a sharp market decline: the Nasdaq was down 3.34% for the day, they said, and the Dow was down 1.13%. They linked investor anxiety in part to questions about AI’s impact on Google Search and the trade-offs Alphabet may face during the transition. One host argued that technological shifts take time to show up in financial results because businesses have inertia.

The hosts also pointed to reasons for optimism about Alphabet: the company spans several parts of the AI stack, with in-house chips, a cloud business, a frontier model and a large advertising business. One host speculated that the stock might be valued differently if revenue from Alphabet’s own model were ramping up. The hosts said Berkshire Hathaway had recently increased its investment in Alphabet.

Against the broader selloff, the hosts also noted that Berkshire shares were rising. They described the company as worth $1.17 trillion and contrasted its performance with falling stocks elsewhere. They also cited U.S. GDP growth at a 3.4% annual rate over the summer, above analysts’ 3.1% expectation. They suggested voters ahead of the midterm elections might weigh economic figures against falling stock prices.
