Meta launches Muse personal AI agent with shopping and task automation

Meta announced Muse, a personal AI agent available through a dedicated app. Users can converse with it, choose its name, buy goods online, respond to emails, and complete other tasks they authorize. Access is free for most usage, while subscription tiers for power users cost $20 and $100 per month.

Muse is described as having access to a virtual machine with 8 gigabytes of memory and 8 gigabytes of storage, alongside security features associated with WhatsApp. It may provision the virtual machine only when in use, but the exact operating model is unclear. In one reported example, Meta AI incorrectly identified Muse as an Anthropic product and directed the user to Claude.

Meta has been working on the product for almost a year, according to a cited post. Muse is expected to compete with Instinct, while its adoption could depend on distribution through Instagram and other Meta products. The app reached No. 3 on the App Store, behind ESPN Fantasy Sports and ChatGPT; its potential for commerce is tied in part to Instagram users’ habit of casually browsing products.
