Jay Leno explains why he travels solo and keeps touring
Jay Leno said he prefers to travel alone and usually flies. As an example, he described a trip to Alabama: the plane landed at 6:30 p.m., he reached the theater at 7:20, and went on stage at 8. Leno contrasted that schedule with a music tour involving rehearsals and logistical problems. He said he is doing 200 dates this year; while on The Tonight Show, he limited himself to about 140 because he mostly performed on weekends, sometimes adding Las Vegas during the week. Leno also compared earnings: he said 100 live dates could pay twice as much as one HBO special, without giving away the material for free.
