Production tools may spread first through urgent reshoots and stunts

Film productions are expected to adopt specialized production tools selectively, especially for urgent reshoots and possibly stunts, while continuing to rely on actors for most ordinary performances. Some of this use is already taking place in Hollywood for reshoots, according to the assessment presented.

Henry Cavill’s return for a Superman reshoot after growing a mustache for Mission: Impossible is cited as an example. The mustache was removed in post-production and his lip and mouth reconstructed; using 2017 technology, the result was described as very rough, tedious and expensive, and was widely criticized by the VFX community.
